Lab Session 3

 Achievements

This week, we finalized our AR project by improving image tracking reliability and including joystick functionality to include model rotation.

Theoretical Concepts
Key principles:

  • Image Detection Optimization: Improved image tracking accuracy by selecting backgrounds with better contrast and clarity.
  • Dynamic Interaction: Enabled rotation of 3D models through joystick controls with the BeeController script.

Implementations
The final week focused on refining and testing these components:

  • Image Background Updates: All images in the AR project were tested, and those that could not be detected properly had their backgrounds adjusted, resulting in the majority of images being updated with new backgrounds.
  • Model Rotation Script: Implemented joystick controls using the BeeController script to support rotating 3D models, providing users with a 360-degree view. Furthermore, the script also enabled movement for the bee model.

Challenges and Learning
Final Challenges:

  • Image Testing: Testing and replacing all low-performing images.
  • Joystick Tuning: Fine-tuning joystick sensitivity to balance smooth model rotation. However, the movement functionality of the 3D models broke when adjustments were made to ensure the models followed the tracked images.
